Requirements, Analysis & Production

The Service satisfies its mandate to report to government through several venues, one of which is the production of finished intelligence reports. Working in close cooperation with the other operational branches, the Requirements, Analysis & Production Branch (RAP) has the primary Service responsibility for the analysis, production, and distribution of policy-neutral intelligence reports on security intelligence issues of relevance to senior federal decision makers.

RAP serves as the Service’s representative on the bi-weekly meetings of the Intelligence Assessment Committee (IAC); a senior-level, interdepartmental committee comprising Canadian federal departments and agencies concerned with security and intelligence. RAP’s Government Liaison Unit supports the Service’s commitment to client-focussed service and the provision of timely, value-added security intelligence advice to government. This unit also provides advice to federal departments and agencies to assist in the preparation of Threat and Risk Assessments, as required by the Government Security Policy.

The Service publishes an unclassified periodical under the name Commentary. Commentary articles address current security issues of relevance to Canada. These articles may be written by CSIS strategic analysts and contributing authors from the private sector. The articles are unclassified and provide opportunity for public discussion on security intelligence matters.
