I believe that the primary issue is that some people
just don't want to be like us and no amount of
exposure will change that.  If we look at our
experience with our own Native Americans and realize
that it is OK for people to have different life styles
and desires and live right here.
Then we should leave them the heck alone.  We do not
have to play chess with every pawn on the table. 
Unfortunately a lot of the animosity toward the "US"
is based on real abuses from individuals, groups,
companies and our government all protected by our flag
and the threat "You better not mess with me, I'm an
American" 
I am not suggesting that we become isolationist but we
can not give aid or protection based on the
expectation that they will become like "US" and not
foster resentment from everyone that we encounter.
