DETROIT (AP) – A federal officer was fatally shot today at a security
checkpoint in the building housing the FBI, and the suspected gunman was
shot and wounded, authorities said. The gunman, who was carrying a bag,
entered the lobby of the Patrick V. McNamara Federal Building and was
asked by a guard what was inside, FBI spokeswoman Dawn Clenney said.
She said the man reached in the bag for a handgun and fired a shot. # #

WASHINGTON (AP) – Federal prosecutors disclosed today they charged a man
with trying to fly into Chicago with an illegal passport and airline
uniforms on the day of the suicide hijackings. In a criminal complaint
unsealed in Illinois, prosecutors said Nageeb Abdul Jabar Mohamed
Al-Hadi was flying aboard a German airliner on Sept. 11 when it was
grounded in Toronto as a result of the attacks. He remains detained in
Canada. In Britain, police arrested three men and one woman today in
connection with the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon,
Scotland Yard said. # # # Feds Detain 25 With Ties to Attacks

BURLINGTON, Ky. (AP) – The FBI said at least 25 people were detained
and federal and state agents conducted six searches in northern Kentucky
today in connection last week's terrorist attacks. Those detained were
held on possible violations of immigration law, the agency said in a
statement. The search warrants and affidavits were sealed and the FBI
would provide no further information. Authorities also refused to
comment on how many of those detained were being held overnight. Two
men told The Associated Press they were jailed for about eight hours
today, asked to show identification and released without being
questioned.
