Hackers used Taiwanese computers to deface US websites

Taiwanese police say attacks on US government websites
last year were launched via local computers.

The island's Criminal Investigation Bureau statement
comes after several sites were defaced with anti-US
and anti-Israel slogans.

FBI officers had requested that Taiwan investigate the
attacks. The attacks have been attributed to a group
known as GForce Pakistan.

Some of the defacements are reported to have carried a
threat to pass on sensitive information to terrorist
groups, including al-Qaida.

The statement ended with a warning that the group
might be recruiting members ahead of a new wave of
cyber attacks but did not give any further details.
