"Police Using Voice Stress Analysis to Detect Lies"
Associated Press (02/11/02); Rubinkam, Michael

West Palm Beach, Fla.'s National Institute for Truth
Verification has sold more than 1,100 units of the Computer
Voice Stress Analyzer to law enforcement agencies for over
$11,000 each. The device's portability, ease of use, and
unobtrusive nature make it preferable to polygraphs to many
officers. The disadvantages of voice stress analysis are
that it is not admissible in court and is illegal in any
states. The American Polygraph Association is among the
groups who claim that the technique is no more effective in
detecting the veracity of statements than a polygraph.
