The Hong Kong newspaper Yazhou Zhoukan stated in July that naval vessels of the People's Liberation Army and the aircraft carrier battle group led by the USS Kitty Hawk electronically "crossed swords." The U.S. reportedly sent EA-6B electronic warfare jets to deal with jamming of Chinese ships According to the newspaper, ships accompanying the Kitty Hawk were conducting exercises in the East China Sea and monitoring Chinese naval vessels when they detected electronic jamming coming from the PLA ships. To counter the jamming, the U.S. forces dispatched EA-6B electronic warfare jets and EP-3 aircraft to jam the jammers. The newspaper quoted a Beijing military source as saying the PLA lost out in the skirmish but that "the other party was after all the originator of electronic warfare." Navy spokesman said they were unaware of any electronic incident but did not rule out that it may have occurred. ------------------------ Yahoo!
